Dr Michael Waldie graduated from University of Queensland in 1982. After being awarded the Cedric Cohen Medal in the Part 1 Conjoint Fellowship Examination in 1985, Dr Waldie trained in the Brisbane Ophthalmology Training Scheme before passing the Part 2 Fellowship Examination in 1989. Dr Waldie was Professorial Senior Registrar at the Sydney Eye Hospital in 1990, working with paediatrics, complicated glaucoma and ocular tumours under the University of Sydney's Professor Frank Billson.
Since establishing practices at Ashgrove and Morningside in Brisbane, Dr Waldie has worked at the Princess Alexandra, Mater Misericordiae and Royal Brisbane Hospitals. He has served as Chairman of Examiners for the Part 1 Fellowship examination with the federal Ophthalmology College and Queensland Chairman of the Qualification & Education. He has worked on the Overseas Trained Specialists Committee, the St Andrew's War Memorial Ethics Committee and as the College representative on the Queensland Government Elective Surgery Taskforce. He has been a director of the Queensland Eye Hospital since 2001 and is currently Medical Director at the Centre.
Dr Waldie is a comprehensive Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Quality Assurance assessment in cataract surgery. He is involved with ongoing clinical glaucoma research and believes that the best patient care results when up to date knowledge is applied with understanding and compassion.
