Dr Peter Beckingsale graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School in 1996 and completed his residency and ophthalmology training in Brisbane. He was awarded the ARVO and RANZCO/Allergan scholarships. He then went to England for fellowship training at The West of England Eye Unit and then the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead where he underwent subspecialty training in corneal, anterior segment and refractive surgery. He is a member of the Corneal Society and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is a visiting consultant ophthalmologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he is in charge of medical student teaching in ophthalmology, as well as being in private practice.
Dr Beckingsale’s area of expertise is corneal, cataract and refractive surgery. This includes corneal transplantation, pterygium excision, multifocal lens implantation, LASIK and Intacs rings for keratoconus. He is particularly interested in advances in corneal transplantation techniques, including partial thickness transplants and sutureless endokeratoplasty. He has presented at many national and international ophthalmology meetings, and is the author of numerous scientific articles.
