[As seen on Channel Ten News]
On 13th March 2007, Channel Ten News presented a story about surgery being conducted at the Queensland Eye Hospital by Dr Andrew Apel. The surgery involved Intraocular Contact Lenses. Dr Andrew Apel is the first Ophthalmologist to implant Intraocular Contact Lenses at Queensland Eye Hospital.
While the surgery being conducted may be of interest to many, the Intraocular Contact Lens is relatively new in Australia and is classified for use under the Australian, Therapeutic Goods Administration, Special Access Scheme. This means that the Intraocular Contact Lens can only be used in certain approved instances, within the TGA guidelines. For further information regarding this classification scheme, please visit the TGA website link: http://www.tga.health.gov.au/.
The eye is a complex part of the human body that requires a full assessment and examination by an eye care professional. Regular eye check-ups which review all aspects of your vision are important for your over all and long term ocular health.
Dr Andrew Apel has a QEH Profile Page and a Profile Page with Queensland Laser Vision (formerly Excimer Laser Vision Centre).
